Colby Covington, nicknamed ‘Chaos’, has had the entire welterweight division on notice until he suffered setbacks in title opportunities. However, that didn’t stop him from marching towards the goal.

In an active resume of 20 fights, Colby Covington has won 17 contests and has lost three. With 5 finishes under his name, ‘Chaos’ is an elite-level striker and a hard puncher. His win list holds some of the most prestigious fighters likely Jorge Masvidal, Robbie Lawler, Tyron Woodley, Demian Maia, and many others.

The only two people to have beaten Colby Covington in professional MMA are- Kamaru Usman (2X) and Warlley Alves. Covington had a 7-fight win-streak in between his maiden and second professional loss. Here’s a look back at all 3 of his UFC defeats.

When Warlley Alves Finished Colby Covington

Riding on a successful debut in 2014 and a three-fight win streak, Covington fought Alves at UFC 194 McGregor vs Aldo in December 2015. Due to lack of experience, ‘Chaos’ fell prey to Allves’ trap in the very beginning.

Despite a commendable start from Covington, Warlley Alves managed to escape with a win. The three-round fights ended in the 1:26 minutes of round 1 as Alves Covington into a guillotine choke. Standing on his foot, Colby Covington found his neck wrapped inside Alves’ choke, ‘Chaos’ tapped out and left with a defeat only to go on a deadly winning spree.

‘Chaos’ vs ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ 1

After seven straight wins, Colby Covington earned his first title shot at UFC 245 in December against Kamaru Usman. Headlining the PPV, Covington gave Usman one of the toughest fights of his career. Both men pushed each other to the brink and refused to surrender.

Usman was favored with a time-off wrongly after Covington body-kicked him which the referee saw as a low blow. Strangely, Kamaru Usman took the time off and re-energized himself. Following that, Usman dominated the whole fight and broke Covington’s jay with a brutal punch. Kamaru Usman comfortably won the bout via unanimous decision and defended his belt.

After the defeat against Usman, Colby Covington vanquished Tyron Woodley in September 2020 to earn another title shot against Kamaru Usman. There was a lot of animosity between the two and the press conference was filled with trash-talks from both sides.

The fight, however, was not very different from the first one. Kamaru Usman once again showed his class and outworked the American star for all five rounds. It seemed like Usman had Covington’s number. It was draining for Kamaru Usman too as Covington didn’t give up and continued to trade shpts. However, Usman unanimously scored the win yet again, handing Covington his third career defeat.
