Hailing from a small town in Jalisco, Mexico, Canelo Alvarez never had it easy on his way to the top of boxing. However, he managed to beat the odds and cement himself as one of the pound-for-pound elite boxers of all time.

At the age of just 33, Canelo already has an experience of 64 professional bouts in 18 years. Indeed, ‘Saul’ Alvarez began professional boxing at the age of 15 and has already held world championships in four different weight classes.

A superstar of the sport, Canelo Alvarez, has 60 wins under his belt with 39 knockouts. He is currently the undisputed super middleweight champion and has previously held belts at light heavyweight, middleweight, and super welterweight.

On this glorious journey, Alvarez has beaten elite-level opponents like ‘GGG’ Gennadiy Golovin (2X), ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley, ‘Krusher’ Sergey Kovalev, ‘Iron Man’ Jermell Charlo, ‘King’ Amir Khan, ‘Superb’ Billy Joe Saunders and the list goes on.

Canelo Alvarez Couldn’t Crack The Unsolvable Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather is arguably the greatest boxer ever, who could depart with a 50-0 pro record and world championship in 5 divisions. Adding to that, he beat most of the world champions consecutively. When he locked horns against Canelo Alvarez in 2013, both men had almost similar pro experience.

23-year-old Canelo stepped inside the ring with a record of 43-0 while 36-year-old Mayweather carried a 44-0 record. Several people deemed it to be the best fight of that year until it turned out to be a lopsided affair in favour of ‘TBE’.

Canelo Alvarez failed to touch Floyd Mayweather and fell trapped in the American star’s gameplan. Mayweather comfortably moved around and stung Alvarez from every possible angle. Mayweather mocked Canelo after he failed to land a couple of shots.

Following a 12-round fight, Floyd Mayweather defended the WBC belt and won comfortably via Majority Decision. Three judges scored the contest 117-111 (Mayweather), 116-112 (Mayweather), 114-114.

Canelo vs Bivol- Loss of the PRIME Mexican

Following the loss against Mayweather, Canelo touched his prime. It seemed like nobody would ever be able to beat him again until the Mexican star went toe-to-toe with Dmitry Bivol. Canelo was on a 16-fight win streak as the undisputed 186 lbs champion. He wanted to go up and grab the 175 lbs WBA belt from Dmitry Bivol, which turned out to be a mistake.

After the loss against Mayweather, Alvarez cited his young age as a reason behind the loss and demanded a rematch several times. But Dmitry Bivol outlanded Canelo in his prime.

On May 2022 during ‘Cinco De Mayo’. Dmitry Bivol stared down and beat Canelo for all 12 rounds. His massive size played a pivotal role. Although Canelo had previously knocked out 175 lbs champion Kovalev, his recent light heavyweight move wasn’t the same. After all 12 rounds, three judges scored the contest 113-115 in favor of Bivol as Alvarez lost via Unanimous Decision.
